AdvertisemenUnder normal circumstances chick lit is not my thing, but out of desperation I bought The Time Traveler's Wife at an airport, and I didn't put it down until I had read the last page. *sigh...swoon* It's a sad, lovely, sci-fi-y romance book, and I love it.
When the movie came out, bad reviews kept me away, but with all my recent sick time, I finally Netflixed it and it wasn't nearly as bad as the reviews made it seem. No, it wasn't as good as the book, but it wasn't painful treacle either. The characters never really settle in, but they did a decent job and it was like spending an hour and a half with old friends, so I enjoyed it. Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana are pretty easy on the eyes too (though I spent the first half hour thinking it was Daniel Faraday from Lost).
The best moment was during the wedding scene. Their first dance is set to a cover of one of my all time favorite songs - Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart. I can't embed, but here's a crappy Chinese bootleg of the scene.
The wedding gown in the movie was gorgeous. It flows so beautifully when she walks.
And my own personal swoon moment just came when I mentioned aloud that I couldn't remember which version of the song I prefer. Immediately my husband said "You like the Permanent mix". He really knows me. Love that guy, and I love this song:
Oh, Ian Curtis. Your heartbreaking voice is my pleasure.
Wait, how many times have I posted about Joy Division now? I feel like it's a lot. You like Joy Division, right? RIGHT?
